IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team continued its perfect conference season with a 71-51 win over Immaculata University Monday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Brittany Whetts led the Knights with 23 points. Sami Borcky netted 11 points and 16 rebounds. Nicole Feby hit three baskets from beyond the arc and ended with 10 points. Bethany Humenik also hit three from downtown for nine points. Katie Young grabbed 14 boards.
Kelly Brown led the Mighty Macs with 15 points. Chelsea McTigue added 14.
The Knights started strong and jumped out to an eight point lead, 12-4, seven minutes into the game. Over the next five minutes, Neumann went on an 11-2 run to take a 17 point advantage. The Knights would hold that margin until halftime and took a 36-18 lead at the break.
Neumann opened the second half by scoring eight of the first 10 points to add to its lead. The Mighty Macs would not go away quietly and started to chip away at the Knights lead. With 8:41 on the clock, Immaculata had cut Neumann's lead to just nine points, 50-41. The Knights responded by netting the just five points to extend their lead back to 14.
Down the stretch, Neumann hit six free throws to go up by 20 points, 68-49, and the Knights would come away with their eighth conference win of the season.
Neumann (13-4, 8-0 CSAC) will host non-conference opponent Alvernia University on Thursday evening at the Mirenda Center beginning at 7 p.m.
