Whetts Breaks WBB Scoring Record in Win

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball remains undefeated in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action with a 70-63 win over Cedar Crest College.

Neumann's offense was led by senior Brittany Whetts who scored a season high 33 points and recorded 12 rebounds. Nicole Feby added 10 points for the Knights.

Brittany Whetts broke the all-time Neumann University women's basketball scoring record of 1,608 points previously held by Kaleena Simmons. Whetts broke the record on a foul shot at the 10:38 mark in the first half. She now has 1,633 career points. 

Lakemma Jones netted 20 points for Cedar Crest. Kelly Oakes had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Lizzy Sunderhaus contributed 10 points and had 9 rebounds.

In the first half, neither team could gain a significant lead until the Knights went on a 13-4 run at the 9:43 mark. A Sami Borcky jumper capped off the run, giving Neumann the 28-18 advantage. The Falcons cut the lead down to three points on a Sunderhaus lay-up with just under eight minutes remaining in the first. The Knights extended the lead to nine, taking a 35-26 lead into halftime. 

Neumann extended their lead to 13 at the start of the second half, taking a 44-31 advantage.  The Falcons cut Neumann's lead down to two points with 7:45 remaining in regulation. The Knights responded quickly extending their lead again and never let the Falcons back into the game. Neumann picked up the 70-63 victory to improve to 15-4 overall and 10-0 in the CSAC.

Neumann is back in action on Monday night as they travel to Marywood University. Tip-off is set for 6p.m.
