ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell to Baruch College, 80-72, Sunday afternoon in the Championship Game at the Marymount Marine Corps Tip-Off Tournament.
Three Knights netted double-digits, led by Katie Young with 16.She was a perfect 8-for-8 from the line. The senior also pulled down 14 rebounds. Krista DiRomualdo and Bethany Humenik each scored 14 points.
The two teams battled back and forth, but with 6:10 left on the clock in the second half and the score Baruch 63, Neumann 60, Baruch notched seven straight points to jump up to a 10 point advantage, as the Knights cold not score a point over a three minute span. The Knights matched the Bearcats over the final three minutes, but could not cut into the deficit.
Baruch jumped out to an early 13-3 lead to start the game. The Bearcats built up a 13 point lead, 29-16, with seven minutes left in the first half. Neumann started to chip away at the lead. Over the next two-and-a-half minutes, the Knights netted 11 straight points for a 29-27 score. Baruch held just a 36-33 lead at halftime.
DiRomualdo hit a three-pointer 11 seconds into the second half to tied the game at 36-all. Neumann and Baruch stayed close before the Bearcats went on their final run for the eight point win, 80-72.
Neumann opens its home schedule on Wednesday evening when it hosts Widener. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. in the Mirenda Center.
DiRomualdo was named to the All-Tournament Team.
