ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell to Widener University, 82-70, Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
Katie Young led the Knights with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Krista DiRomualdo netted 17 points. Sam Wilson pulled in 11 rebounds.
Four Widener players scored in double figures, led by Lil Carney with 26 points. Lindsay Pepino added 16 points. Jennifer Egee and Alyssa Wiggins each netted 14 points.
Neumann started the game off strong and built an 11 point lead, 26-15, with 7:44 to go in the first half. Widener then went on a 15-6 run to cut Neumann's lead to two, 32-30, with 3:10 left in the half. Wiggins then hit a last-second three-pointer to tie the game at 38 heading into halftime.
The Knights held the pace of the game for the first part of the second half, until Pepino hit a lay-up and free throw to give the Pride their first lead, 54-53.
Di Romulado hit a three-pointer at the 6:14 mark to knot the game at 60. The Pride then took off and went on a 13-4 run to take a 72-64 lead. Neumann could not cut into the lead and Widener came away with the 82-70 win.
Neumann (2-3) will open conference play on Monday evening beginning at 6 p.m.
