ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team picked up its first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) win with a 58-55 win over Immaculata University Monday evening.
Katie Young paced the Knights with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Erica Marvel netted 15 points, all from behind the arc. Kieran Young pulled in 11 rebounds while Bethany Humenik grabbed 10.
Rachel Denis led the Mighty Macs with 14 points. Chelsea McTigue netted 11 while Chrissy Esbensen added 10. Bridget Welz grabbed 10 rebounds.
Marvel hit two key three-pointer with under five minutes remaining to give Neumann 58 points and a seven point advantage. Immaculata could only manage four free-throws in the final four minutes and the Knights held on for the 58-55 win.
In the first half, Neumann scored the first eight points of the contest. The teams then battled back and forth and the Knights went into halftime up by two, 31-29.
The Knights built an eight point lead, 39-31, with 16:35 left on the clock, but the Mighty Macs went on a 10-2 run to tie the game at 41. The teams would remain tight until Marvel hit her threes with four minutes left in regulation.
Neumann (3-3, 1-0 CSAC) will travel to Moravian College for non-conference action on Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m.
