Women's Basketball Comes up Short

ASTON, Pa. – Neumann University women's basketball team drops a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game to Cabrini College, 73-68.

Brittany Whetts led the Knights offense with 24 points and 13 rebounds on the afternoon. Katie Young netted 18 points and pulled down 13 boards.

The Cavilers were led by Deana DiAmico with 24 points. Kate Walck netted 23 and Alyssa Brady added 11 points.

The first twenty minutes of the conference match-up had the teams trading baskets. Whetts gave the Knights the first lead just four minutes into the game and a Young jumper extended the lead to six points, the largest lead for either team in the half. The Cavilers regained the advantage with 8:55 left, but the Knights would not let them pull away. Cabrini went into half time with a three point margin, 33-30.

Neumann opened the second half on a 10-6 run, taking a 40-39 lead with 15:54 on the clock. The teams again traded baskets for the next five minutes. Brady's lay-up with 9:39 left in regulation would give Cabrini a lead they would not give up. The Cavilers took a ten point advantage, 61-51, with 4:20 remaining. Four different Neumann players scored points in the 13-7 run, cutting Cabrini's advantage to a point, 68-67 with 54 seconds left. The final seconds of the game Neumann could not pull ahead, eventually falling 73-68.

Neumann (18-6, 14-2 CSAC) will be the No. 1 seed going into the CSAC playoffs and receives a first round bye. They will be back in action on Thursday evening at home in semi-final action.
