GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Neumann University baseball team fell to Greensboro College, 12-8, Sunday afternoon.
Mathieu Valieres and Kevin Flangan each had three hits for the Knights. Flanigan, Charles Johnson and Matt Grossi had two RBI each. Valieres and Mike Scicutella both scored two runs.
Russell Gilliam started the game and went three innings on the mound. He struck out four batters. Mike Dicken went two innings and struck out one. Cody Younker and Erik Klimoff also pitched in the game.
Greensboro got on the board first, scoring three runs in the second and one in the third. After six innings, the Knights were down 7-1. Neumann then scored four runs in the seventh, capped by a two-run single by Flanigan. Greensboro answered with five runs in the home half of the seventh to build a 12-5 lead.
Neumann added three more runs in the eighth inning, including a two-run single by Johnson, but could not overcome the deficit.
Neumann (0-3) will travel to Virginia Wesleyan College next Sunday for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
