GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team completed a regular season series sweep of Gwynedd-Mercy College with a 56-49 win Monday evening in Colonial State Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Brittany Whetts was the lone Knights in double-digits with 16 points. Jordan Elgart and Bethany Humenik each had nine points. Katie Young pulled down nine boards.
Katie Wisniewski led the Griffins with 15 points. Kristy McGrath grabbed 11 rebounds.
Neumann held the lead for the entire first half, building its lead to as many as nine. The Knights held a 28-21 advantage at the half.
The Knights still held a nine point lead, 32-23, with 16:33 on the clock in the second half. But the Griffins went on an 11-1 run over the next five-plus minutes to take a one-point lead. Whetts then made two free throws to give the Knights back the one-point advantage. Up by one point, 38-37, with 9:58 left in regulation, Neumann went on a 9-2 run to pad its lead. GMC would get back to within four points with 2:40 on the clock, but that was as close as it would get and Neumann held on for the 56-49 win.
Neumann improves to 16-5 overall and 11-1 in CSAC play with the win and completes the season sweep of GMC. The Knights defeated the Griffins 69-55 earlier this season. Neumann will host Rowan on Wednesday evening in its final non-conference action of the season. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
