Softball Drops a Pair to Shenandoah

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team dropped a pair of games to Shenandoah University, 10-3, 7-2, Wednesday afternoon in the team's home opener.

In the first game, Lauren Castiello knocked in the Knights three runs on a three-run shot to left field in the bottom of the first inning. The homerun tied the game at three after one inning. The Hornets took back the lead in the top of the second. They would add three more in the fourth and two in the fifth for the 10-3 win in the first game.

Lauren Strack had two hits for Neumann. Rachel Purpuro started the game and went 3.1 innings. Sarah McGann pitched 3.2 innings in relief.

In game two, the Knights got on the board first as Crystal Perlman knocked in Megan Mazur in the third inning. The Hornets answered right back and tied the game in the top of the fourth. Shenandoah added six runs in the top of the fifth on a two-run single, triple and homerun. Kim Kirkpatrick knocked in Strack in the bottom of the fifth, but the Knights could not get any closer and the game was called after five due to darkness.

Perlman had two hits for Neumann. Brittany Campbell pitched for the Knights.

Neumann (2-8) will host Ursinus next Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
