Baseball Eliminated From CSAC Tournament

BOYERTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell to Gwynedd-Mercy, 15-8, Friday night to end its quest for the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Title.

Mathieu Vallieres went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. Bobby Callan scored three runs.

The Knights had six pitchers in the game. Mike Dicken started the game and went 4.2 innings in the loss. George Hatton went 1.1 innings. Ray Schmoltze, Erik Klimoff, Joe Slater and Art Wharton went the final two innings.

The Griffins got on the board in the first inning as Austin Ley hit a two-run shot to center field. 

Neumann scored two runs in the fourth to tie the game and two runs in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Gwynedd-Mercy answered with five runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Ley hit his second two-run homerun in the inning.

Vallieres knocked in two-runs on a double to left-center in the sixth inning to make the score 7-6 Griffins. After adding two unearned runs in the sixth, GMC would put another five-spot on the board in the eighth to extend its lead to 15-6.

The Knights would plate two-runs in the ninth inning, but could not comeback from the deficit.

Neumann (19-17-1) will now wait for the ECAC Tournament Brackets to be announced to see if its season continues. Gwynedd-Mercy (24-14) advances to the CSAC Championship game and will face Keystone Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
