RADNOR, Pa. – A late basket by Sami Borcky gave Neumann its only lead of the game and the Knights came away with a 51-49 win at Cabrini College Monday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) women's basketball action.
Katie Young notched a double-double with 18 rebounds and 17 points. Bethany Humenik netted 13 points.
Laura Caron led Cabrini with 14 points.
Neumann held the lead just once in the game, but it came on Borcky's basket with 27 seconds left on the clock. Cabrini's Caron then missed a lay-up that Young grabbed. Humenik was fouled with six seconds left and hit one-from-two from the line. Caron attempted a three-pointer in the final second, but missed and Neumann took the come-from-behind victory.
Cabrini started the game off strong and took an early 11-3 lead five minutes into the game. Neumann then started to chip its way back into the contest and tied the game at 18 on a free throw by Humenik with 3:24 left in the first half. The Cavaliers ended the half on a 7-2 run to take a 25-20 lead into halftime.
Neumann stayed within arm's reach during the second half. The Knights tied the game at 44 with 5:29 left in regulation when Young hit two free throws. Caron answered for the Cavaliers to go right back up on top.
The score was tied again, 48-48, with 1:48 on the clock. Colleen Stewart made one-of-two from the line for a Cabrini one-point lead. Borcky then hit her jumper with 27 seconds left for a Neumann one-point advantage.
Neumann improves to 10-6 and remains a perfect 7-0 in the conference. Cabrini is now 4-12 overall and 3-5 in the CSAC. The Knights host Centenary on Thursday in conference action beginning at 6 p.m.
