Box Score

ASTON, Pa.- The Neumann women's soccer team won 3-1 against Wesley College on Aston Youth Soccer Night Wednesday night.

It was a night that the Knights would possess the ball, changing the point of attack without effort. Using wide play prompted many dangerous services into the penalty box and allowed shots to come from all angles. Kristin Ambrose was given time and space to get a shot off from distance, the Wesley keeper made the save, but quick footed Ashley Hawkins unraveled her speedy feet to score at the 26th minute mark.

Six minutes later, Hawkins would score a sensational goal using her head to power the ball into the corner of the net. The timing of her run was impeccable and she was assisted off Nica Meccariello. Meccariello made the play happen with great intervention when she beat the Wolverine defender down the line the cutting in towards the end line. The delivery of her service was of the highest quality and Hawkins did the rest.

Brianna King made some great saves when she needed to but was inactive for most of the game. King only had one save on the night, but was well positioned off corners and handy with her feet, giving great distribution. In the 54th minute, Wesley had a throw-in deep in Neumann 's corner and Wolverine attacker got goal side of the Knights defender. She dribbled the ball into the box then straddling the end-line only to hit a no angle shot into the roof of the Knights net.

The game became pretty open for the next few minutes but Maria Tivola owned the middle of the field to reestablish control of the game. Allie MacNeil put the “F” in Fantastic as she hit a screamer from 35 yards away to score stretching the lead to 3-1. Alexis Tiernan assisted on the goal.

The Knights are primed and poised to take on Marywood University this Saturday at home in conference play with a 1 pm start time. The Knights are 4-3, 1-0 in CSAC.
