Marvel Shines in Knights Win

HACKETSTOWN, N.J.  – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Centenary Cyclones in the Colonial States Athletic Conference 85-82 Wednesday evening.

 

The game could be summed up into two words: Erica Marvel. Marvel started the game hitting a three pointer and continued the trend from that point on. She scored 33 points, laying down 9-of-11 three pointers.

 

The Knights shot 5-7 (71.4%) in the first half, 8-12 (66.7%) in the second half and a sensational 13-19 (68.4%) in the game.

 

The Cyclones would start off with a 4-0 lead and the Knights and Marvel hit two consecutive three pointers to tie the score at 6-6. Both teams would exchange baskets and knotting the game at 18-18 with 12:28 remaining in the first half. The Knights would jump out to a 13 point lead gaining a 37-24 advantage with 4:59. The first half would end with the Knights leading 43-35 lead.

 

In the second half the Cyclones would find joy scoring inside the paint for 32 of their 47 second half points. With 10:32 remaining in the game the Cyclones would gain a three point advantage and with 8:39 left, Marvel would connect on a three point field goal never relinquishing the lead from that point forward.

 

In the end, Bethany Humenik  controlled the tempo of the game nailing down important free throws giving the Knights their 85-82 win, scoring 10 points and adding nine assist.

 

The Knights were stellar from the free throw line as a team hitting 16-18 for 88.9%. Sami Borky contributed 15 points and help dish out six assist.

 

The Knights 8-2 in CSAC will host Keystone Saturday Jan 28th for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
