Box Score

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann Knights women's soccer team beat Cabrini  College 1-0 in the Colonial States  Athletic Conference (CSAC ) game Tuesday night.

On a night where it was most suitable to be in bed with hot chocolate the Knights went out to the field and beat their rival, Cabrini, 1-0. It was a game where defense was the key word. Neither team seemed to have their offense going as they failed to score in 87 minutes.

Neumann had a chance to score early on the game but the opportunity was squandered. In the 25th minute Emily Sanders failed to convert on a good chance as her shot went just wide. In the 32nd minute Tonia Russo made a great pass to Megan Garsey and she wasn't able to unload a shot quick enough before a Cavalier defender fended off the danger.

In the 37th minute Cabrini looked as if they were going to score when they went on a breakaway, but a late foul to Neumann saved the night as it avoided Cabrini from scoring.  In the 48th minute Neumann almost scored as Cabrini almost did the Knights a favor and gave Neumann the lead on an own goal.

In the second half Sanders got the crowd excited in two different occasions as she had a couple of chances to give Neumann the lead. The Knights defense was displayed throughout the whole game, especially in the 56th minute when Cabrini attacked but the Knights were too strong and stopped the attack.

In the 87th minute, when everybody was mentally prepared for some crucial overtime, Maria Tivoli made a terrific run in behind the Cavaliers defense. Megan Malstrom movement and vision in the midfield was superb all night and on this occasion, she found Tivoli in a position to be dangerous. The service was deliberate and delightful and Tivoli took the ball in stride luring the keeper off her line. Tivoli slipped the ball under the keeper to score as the fans roared in excitement.

Next up for the Knights is a road game at Baptist Bible College on Oct. 13,2012. The Knights look to keep their momentum going as they look to grab their fifth win in Conference action and look to remain unbeaten after a huge win against one of their biggest rivals.
