ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's basketball team (11-14, 10-6 CSAC) opens the first round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoffs as a No. 6 seed taking on the No. 3 seed Immaculata University (14-11, 12-4 CSAC) tonight at 7:00 PM.
The Knights split with the Mighty Mac's during the regular season, as both teams won their games at home. On January 11th, the Knights won 80-75 in overtime. The Knights played a high pressure defense and took a 36-23 lead. The Mighty Macs clawed their way back and the Knights could not finish the game off by missing several free throw opportunities down the stretch with the scored tied 61-61. The Knights took over the win overtime Bethany Humenik scoring 10 points and the team scored 19 points in five minutes.
On February 1st, the Mighty Mac's won by a score of 69-61. The Knights took a 35-29 halftime lead. The game was tied at 58-58 and the last four minutes found the Mighty Macs make the final push for victory. Humenik scored 12 points and 14 rebounds. Erica Marvel scored 12 points in the contest.
Immaculata has won four in a row heading in to postseason. The Knights have lost five of their last six games of the regular season.
One of the things the Knights will be mindful of is getting off to a quick start, as opposed to chasing the game on the opponent's home court. Quick starts on the road have been relatively inconsistent for the Knights.
Erica Marvel leads the team in point production this year averaging 10.6 points per game. Sami Borcky averages 10.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Bethany Humenik averages 10.1 points and 6.1 assists per game.
Immaculata has four players that score in double figures. Bridget Wells averages 13.1 points per game, Leah Kuczynski averages 12.4 points per game, Kelly Brown averages 12.3 points per game and Chrissy Esbensen averages 11.4 points per game.
Gwynedd-Mercy College finished the regular season as the No.1 seed, Baptist Bible finished No. 2, Both teams receive a bye in the first round. Immaculata finished No. 3, Marywood No. 4, Cabrini No. 5 and Neumann rounds out the group claiming the No. 6 seed.
The winner of the Knights-Mighty Mac's game will advance to the CSAC semifinals. Neumann would face Gwynedd-Mercy, should it advance. In the other first round contest, Cabrini travels to Marywood.
