Women's Basketball Holds Off Mighty Macs

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team held on for a 70-62 win against Immaculata University on Monday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

 

JoHanna Metzger led the Knights with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Laura Scott netted 14 points and two blocks. Erica Marvel and Jessica Schlesman each had nine.

 

Midway through the first half, with the teams tied at 10, the Knights went on a 14-4 run to take a 24-14- advantage. Scott started the run with a lay-up. The Mighty Macs would not let the Knight start to run away with the game and cut the lead to five, 26-21, going into halftime.

 

Neumann led the entire second half, but Immaculata would not let the Knights take the easy win. The Mighty Macs battled to within one, 30-29, three minutes into the half. After a timeout, Schlesman came out and hit a three for the Knights, followed by two lay-ups by Marvel, to get back to an eight point lead, 37-29.

 

The Knights held the Mighty Macs at arms length until the final two minutes of the game when Immaculata came chipping its way back. A three-pointer with 1:23 left in regulation made it a 63-60 Neumann lead. Metzger answered with a jumper. Humenik then hit two free throws and Marvel went 1-for-2 as the Knights built back up an eight point lead, 68-60, with 32 seconds left. Schlesman sealed the win with two free throws with 13 seconds left and Neumann held on for the 70-62 win.

 

Neumann improves to 8-10 overall and 6-3 in conference action. The Knights host Baptist Bible on Wednesday as part of a doubleheader with the men. Action gets underway at 6:00 PM.
