Last Second Shot Can't get Neumann Past Cabrini

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball fell to 63-60 to Cabrini College on Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

 

JoHanna Metzger led the Knights with 14 points. Bethany Humenik had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Erica Marvel added 10 points.

 

Although the Cavalier led down the stretch of the game, the Knights never let the game out of their sight. Marvel had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but her three-point attempt hit off the rim.

 

With eight minutes left in regulation, the teams were tied at 46-all. Cabrini connect on 3-of-4 free throw chances to take a 49-46 lead with 6:10 remaining. The team would continue to trade baskets as the time continued to tick off the clock.

 

With under a minute left and Cabrini holding a 60-58 lead, Humenik was fouled. She made 1-of-2 to get to within one. The Cavalier took advantage of their free throw attempts to hold the three point lead with five seconds remaining.

 

The first half and beginning of the second half was close, like final minutes of the game. Neumann's biggest lead was eight, 39-31, with 13:49 left in the second half. Cabrini had a seven point lead, 12-5, to start the game.

 

Neumann is now 9-11 overall and 7-4 in the CSAC. Cabrini remains undefeated in conference action, despite the efforts of the Knights. Neumann hosts Cairn University on Saturday afternoon. It is senior day when the Knights recognize Bethany Humenik and Laura Scott for their basketball careers. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 PM.
