Rugby Battles But Falls Short Versus Ursinus

10/6/2013 10:03:00 PM

After three consecutive road games, the Knights finally got their home opener, but the end result was a thrilling yet heartbreaking loss. Neumann took on the top-ranked team in the division, Ursinus College, and battled all the way until the final horn sounded on a 31-29 loss. Neumann jumped out to an early lead thanks to an electrifying try by freshman Sean Daniel. Daniel used his blazing speed to take a pass 80 meters for the score and then followed up with a hard fought try later in the same period. Ursinus came back thanks in large part to a number of Neumann penalties that resulted in great field position.
Neumann's try scoring continued thanks to Tom Fox. Our powerful 8-man scored twice on the day to raise his team-leading try total to five. Shane Murphy added another try late in the second half to retake the lead from Ursinus. With eight minutes left in the period, the Knights held a 29-26 lead but were unable to put away a feisty Ursinus charge on an unusually-hot October afternoon. Neumann made a final run at the victory but were unable to come up with the score.
