By: Marykay Helm, Team Manager

This weekend, your Neumann Knights Club Ice Hockey team had two big games. Friday, November 15 the Knights took on conference rival Alvernia University. Neumann won in the team's previous match up, and was hoping for a similar outcome at home.  Alvernia took a quick 3-1 lead, until Janko Mamrillo answered with a goal early in the second period to bring the Knights within one, 3-2. Senior forward Erik Heritage scored next for the Knights to tie the game. With less than 10 minutes remaining, Mamrillo scored again giving Neumann the lead for the first time all night. Neumann and Alvernia went back-to-back with goals, until Alvernia tied to game up 5-5. It was looking as though the game would go into overtime, until senior assistant captain Drew Scannella scored and gave the team a 6-5 advantage with under a minute left to play in regulation. Just when you thought the game was over, Alvernia scored with 30 seconds left to force the game into overtime. With just a minute into overtime, Mamrillo scored the game winner, his third of the evening to complete the hat trick, to earn the 7-6 come-from-behind win!

The next night, Neumann traveled to the University of Delaware to take on the Blue Hens. Neumann got on the board quick with goals from seniors Riley Hess and Cody Roy and at the end of the first period the Knights found themselves up 3-0. The Knights increased their lead early in the second period after goals from Captain Jake Slimm, Erik Heritage and Mamrillo to give Neumann a 6-0 lead. Despite the Blue Hens answering with 3 goals, it was not enough and the Knights held off for their second win of the weekend. Neumann is 2-0 against University of Delaware this season.

Next weekend the Knights travel to Warminster, Pa for the Winter Classic where they will take on opponents Robert Morris College, Fairfield University and University of Charlotte. Follow the teams twitter page @NUICH_Knights for live score updates throughout the games as well as team news!
