Your Neumann Knights had two games this weekend. Saturday, November 2, the Knights traveled to Atlantic City for their sixth-straight game on the road to take on Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Neumann got on the board very early with a goal by senior assistant captain, Riley Hess. Stockton answered with two quick goals to start the second. After finding themselves down by one, Neumann sophomore Brian Murphy tied the game up at 2-2. After another Stockton goal, Murphy yet again answered with a slap shot from the blue line. Neumann took the lead early in the third period with a goal from DJ Terry, however Stockton scored with five minutes remaining in the game. The game was forced into overtime, but the Knights could not hold on for a win. Neumann fell to Stockton with a final score of 5-4 in overtime.
After not having a home game for over a month, Neumann finally found themselves playing in their home rink against Bryn Athyn College on Sunday afternoon. Bryn Athyn scored early in the first period but Neumann scored shortly after with a goal from senior Ryan Dreger to tie the game at 1-1. In the second period, the visitors jumped to a 4-1 advantage. However, Neumann got themselves back into the game with two goals back-to-back from new addition, Janko Mamrilla. to end the second period. It looked as though Neumann was going to be hit with another loss until Brian Murphy tied the game with three minutes left in regulation. After great goaltending from both teams, neither Neumann nor Bryn Athyn could pull off a goal to end the third, so for the second consecutive night, Neumann was going into overtime. Neumann played stellar defense after being penalized and was on a 4-3 disadvantage for the first two minutes of overtime. Senior goalie Ryan Davis did an outstanding job blocking shot after shot that he faced. However, with a minute left in overtime, Bryn Athyn broke the tie with a goal and beat Neumann 5-4.
With the team in low spirits following their second consecutive overtime loss, senior assistant captain Drew Scannella said "It was a rough weekend for us and we are obviously not happy with either outcome of our games this weekend. But I know my team and we will bounce back from this and be ready for next weekend."
Neumann takes on West Chester next Friday at 9:15pm at Ice Line in West Chester. Neumann went 1-1 against West Chester last season. Also, come out to Ice Works of Aston Saturday at 5:15pm when the Knights take on Conference rival Penn State Brandywine. Neumann lost to Brandywine last month in a dramatic shoot out, so this next meeting is guaranteed to be a good one!
