HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University women's basketball team picked up a 68-58 win at Centenary College on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Bethany Humenik hit the 1,000th point of her career with 7:45 left in the second half after she was fouled and went 2-for-2 from the line. The senior put Neumann up 49-42 at the time. She finished the game leading the Knights with 17 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.
Erica Marvel and Jessica Schlesman each netted 12 points while JoHanna Metzger added 10.
The Knights slowly built up their lead in the first half and held a 10 point advantage three times. The Cyclones would not let the Knights run away with the game. Neumann held a four point lead, 26-22, at the half.
The second half was much like the first, with the Knights holding the lead, but the Cyclones not letting the game get out of reach. With 4:56 left in regulation, Neumann held a slim 53-51 lead. The Knights responded with six consecutive points, including Colleen Hinde going 4-for-4 from the line, for an eight point lead with 3:23 left on the clock.
During the final 3:10 of the game, all baskets made were free throws. The Cyclones went 5-for-5 while the Knights went 9-for-12 and Neumann came away with the 10 point win.
Neumann (13-11, 11-4 CSAC) wraps-up the regular season on Wednesday when it hosts Gwynedd-Mercy. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 PM for the conference match.
