Neumann IHC Sweeps Weekend

9/30/2013 10:21:00 AM

This weekend, your Neumann University Knights Club Ice Hockey team faced two tough opponents. The Knights first traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to take on Loyola University on Saturday, September 28. Ryan Dregger contributed with two goals early in the first period to give the Knights the lead, 2-0. However, at the conclusion of the second period Neumann found themselves down by 2 goals, 2-4. With less than 10 minutes remaining, Neumann rallied a comeback with a goal from senior Matt Fox to pull within one, 4-5. With a minute left, it looked like Neumann was going to be hit with their first loss of the season, but senior Cody Roy scored a dramatic goal with .6 seconds left to force the game into overtime. The scored remained 5-5 through the end of overtime which then brought both teams to a shootout. Dregger was first up and scored easily against Loyola's goalie, as senior goalie Ryan Davis blocked Loyola's first two shooters. Fox was up next and scored with a slap shot to secure the comeback and the 6-5 victory.

Neumann concluded the weekend by hosting the University of Delaware Blue Hens at Ice Works on Sunday, September 29. The clubs went back and forth with goals and entered the final period knotted at 3-3. Neumann tallied five unanswered scores in the final period en route to an 8-3 win. Roy ended the game with a hat trick, while sophomore forward Connor McCanney also contributed two goals. Seniors Riley Hess, Michael Scarpone and freshman Cameron Beale each added a goal.

The Knights face off against Robert Morris University at home next Sunday at 2pm at Ice Works. Neumann won both games against Robert Morris last season including a game in the Regional Tournament to advance them to the National Tournament for the first time in club history. Needless to say, it should be a very interesting matchup.
