Women's Basketball Hands Pacers First CSAC Loss

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team handed Marywood University its first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) loss by a 64-56 score on Saturday afternoon.

Erica Marvel led the Knights with 20 points, including four baskets from beyond the arc, to lead the Knights. JoHanna Metzger added 15 points. Jessica Schlesman pulled down 10 boards.

The first half remained close, with the biggest lead being held by the Pacers, 24-18, with 1:59 left on the clock. Marywood hit a three-pointer with three seconds left on the clock to take a 30-25 lead into halftime.

The Pacers came out of the break and hit a three-pointer 10 seconds into the half for an eight point advantage. The Knights then began to chip their way into the lead and went on a 6-0 run over the next three minutes for a 33-31 score.

A layup by Jordan Ogden, in the middle of a 16-1 run for the Knights, gave the Knights the lead for good with 11:44 left in the second half. A jumper by Marvel put the Knights up by 10, 49-39, to complete the run.

The Pacers were not going to go quietly and got to within three points, 59-56, with just over two minutes remaining. A free throw by Schlesman made it a two-possession game with 49 seconds left in regulation. Two free throws by Colleen Hinde and a layup by Marvel sealed the 64-56 win for the Knights.

Neumann (6-6, 3-2 CSAC) will host Centenary on Monday evening in CSAC action beginning at 7:00 PM.
