ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Rosemont College 79-69 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Wednesday evening.
Erica Marvel let the Knights with 19 points. Lauren Walker netted 15 points. Jessica Schlesman notched 11 and Colleen Hinde added 10. JoHanna Metzger pulled down 16 boards and had four blocks.
With the score 10-9 nights four minutes into the game, the Knights went on a 10-2 run to take a 20-11 lead. Neumann would holds its biggest lead of the half, 16 points, after Sarah Roberts hit two free throws at the 6:13 mark. The Knights held a 40-29 advantage at the break.
Neumann held the pace for much of the second half, until Rosemont decided to chip its way back into the game. With two minutes left in regulation, the Ravens completed a 15-3 run to get to within four points, 70-66. Marvel, Schlesman and Walker went a combined 7-for-8 from the line to take back control of the game and extend the Knights lead back to 11, 77-66, with 49 seconds left on the clock. That was all the Knights would need to come away with the 79-69 win.
Neumann (5-6, 2-2 CSAC) travels to Marywood on Saturday for more conference action beginning at 1:00 PM.
