ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team defeated Marywood University 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Christian Cortese scored his first two collegiate goals in the game, including the game-winner. Dan Jones made five saves in net.
Cortese scored his first goal off a flurry in front of the net. Evan Fahey tipped the ball to Cortese and he put it in the back of the net for his first goal and a 1-0 Knights lead in the 26th minute. The freshman then scored his second goal as Tben Donnie took the ball down the field and crossed it to Cortese in the 34th minute. Neumann held a 2-0 at the half.
The Pacers cut the Knights lead in half in the 68th minute. Marywood tried to get the tying goal, but to no avail. Zach DiDonato then gave Neumann an insurance goal when he sank a pass from Jake McDevitt in the 88th minute.
Each team had six shots on net.
Neumann (3-7-1, 3-0) will look for its fourth straight win when it hosts Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday afternoon. The conference game gets underway at 1:00 PM.
