Box Score
CHESTER, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell by a score of 67-57 in non-conference action at Widener University on Saturday afternoon.
Holly McKaig led the Knights with 20 points. Jessica Schlesman netted 16 and Ericka Smith-Sowell added 11 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
After Widener went up by five or six points a few times in the first half, Neumann tied the score up at 15 and then took an 18-17 advantage with 11:09 left in the first. It would be six minutes before either team would find the basket when the Pride tied the game on a free throw.
The teams would have three more knotted scores, but Widener would end the half on a 10-4 run to take a 34-29 lead into halftime.
The second half was much like the first and the teams were knotted again, 52-52, with 7:12 left in regulation. The Pride hit a three-pointer to kick start a 13-1 run to take a 65-53 lead with 2:32 left on the clock. That run would be the difference and Widener came away with the 67-57 win.
Neumann (2-1) opened conference action on Monday evening when it travels to Gwynedd Mercy. Action gets underway at 7:00 PM.
