Knights Fall Late to Garnet

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's basketball team fell to Swarthmore College Wednesday evening 62-55 in a close battle that came down to the final minutes.

Latisha Johnson and Holly McKaig led the Knights with 11 points, while McKaig also brought down eight rebounds.  Jessica Schlesman scored 10 points while leading with four assists.

After Swarthmore took an early 4-0 lead, Schlesman tied the game with four consecutive free throws. The score then went back and forth each team taking a lead. After three scoreless minutes, Neumann took a 10-9 advantage with a jumper from Carly Kovin. The teams continued to trade baskets back and forth. Swarthmore held the largest lead of the half, 31-26, heading into the break.

Neumann kept the score to within single digits and started to make its move on back-to-back three-pointers by Sarah Roberts. The Knights took the lead on a Johnson jumper at the 13:03 mark, 43-42. The Knights then held the lead for the next eight minutes before Garnet tying the score at 53.

Down the final stretch, Swarthmore held Neumann at arm's length. Schlesman connected on two free throws with 32 seconds remaining for a three point game, 58-55. However, the Garnet sealed the game with four free throws in the final 30 seconds.

Neumann (2-4) will travel to Centenary College for conference action on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 PM.
