IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team handed Immaculata University its first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) loss this season by a 63-59 score on Saturday afternoon.
Colleen Hinde led the Knights with 14 points. Jessica Schlesman netted 11 points and Erica Marvel added 10.
Immaculata held the pace as the game opened, scoring 11 of the first 15 points. Marvel then connected on two straight three-pointers for an 11-10 score. Nicole Fallon hit a jumper with under a minute left in the first half to put the Knights up 27-26. Hinde connected on a layup before the buzzer and the Knights took a 29-26 lead into halftime.
Schlesman hit a three-pointer with 16:59 left in the second half give the Knights a 34-32 lead, a lead in which Neumann would not relinquish. The basket started a 9-0 run for the Knights as they took a 40-32 advantage.
With 4:45 left in regulation, JoHanna Metzger hit a layup for an 11 point advantage, 61-50. The Knights held a seven point lead with 3:58 left as the teams then found points hard to come by. The Mighty Macs broke the scoreless drought with a jumper with 39 seconds left in regulation. Hinde then went 2-for-2 from the line for a 63-56 lead. Immaculata hit a three-pointer as the buzzer sounded, but it wasn't enough and Neumann held on for the 63-59 win.
Neumann improves to 12-8 overall and 9-3 in CSAC action. The Knights return home after four road games and will host Penn State-Abington on Monday evening in non-conference action beginning at 7:00 PM.
