The Neumann Knights Roller Hockey Club advanced to the Semifinal Round (Final Four) of the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (NCRHA) National Championship thanks to a 5-2 win over Cal Poly in the quarterfinals on Friday evening (4/11).
Nick Allison,
Shane Fox,
PJ DiMartino,
Brandon Boyle, and
Anthony Ehinger each recorded a goal for the Knights, while
Michael Maczynski posted a 26-save performance between the pipes.
The team's semifinal matchup is a rematch with UNLV at 1:15 pm on Saturdya (4/12) at IceWorks Arena (Aston, PA); the teams previously met in pool play, where Neumann earned a 3-0 victory.
Twenty-four teams were invited by the NCRHA to participate in the national tournament. Single-elimination play begins on April 10 at 6:30 p.m. and continues through Friday, April 11 to determine the Final Four. National semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday, April 12, in the afternoon with the puck dropping for the national title game on April 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Previous Contests:In pre-tournament seeding match-ups on Wednesday, April 9, the Knights beat the University of Colorado, 7-3, and the Spartans of Michigan State, 5-3, and then concluded the opening round with a 3-0 shutout victory versus UNLV on Thursday, April 10.
Against Colorado, the Knights notched five goals in the second period to take a commanding lead.
Shane Fox, Jake Miller and
Thomas Youmans each scored two goals in the win. In their second game of the day, Neumann needed a four-goal third period to edge Michigan State.
Anthony Ehinger scored two goals, and
Nick Allison added a goal and two assists in the victory.
Michael Maczynski was outstanding in goal, netting 28 saves.Maczynski followed with a 14-save performance for the shutout versus UNLV in the club's final game in pool play.
The team opened single-elimination play with a 8-1 victory over Eastern Michigan University on Friday (4/11). Ehinger led all scorers with three goals and an assist and
Jonathan Lucente added a pair of goals and an assist;
Shane Fox and
PJ DiMartino contributed the team's other scores. Maczynski was again solid in net, posting 14 saves on 15 shots.
