ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell to Widener University by a 77-64 score on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
JoHanna Metzger led the Knights with 16 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.
Nafisa Saunders netted 17 points and
Lauren Legler added 16.
Widener opened the game with the first six points. The Knights then scored six of the next eight for an 8-6 score. Neumann got to within one, 11-10, with 4:36 left in the first quarter, but would not get the go-ahead basket. The Pride led 18-14 after the first 10 minutes.
The Pride built their lead into double-digits in the second quarter and took their biggest lead of the half, 42-29, into halftime. Widener doubled-up Neumann in scoring in the third quarter, 22-11, for a 64-40 lead after three quarters.
The Knights would start to chip their way back into the game in the fourth and would get to within 11, 75-64, but it wasn't until the last minute of regulation.
Neumann (3-4) will travel to St. Petersburg, Florida for the St. Pete Classic. The Knights will face Spalding University from Kentucky on Friday, December 18 at 7:00 PM.
