Women's Basketball Holds Off Giants in OT

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Keystone College in a high scoring 102-96 game in overtime on Tuesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Four Knights recorded double-doubles and five Knights scored in the double-digits. JoHanna Metzger led the Knights with 21 points and 15 rebounds while blocking four shots. Lauren Legler scored 21 points and brought down 10 rebounds. Jessica Schlesman netted 19 points and Sarah Roberts added 17 points while both handed out 10 assists. Emily Lyons hit six baskets from three-point land for 18 points.

The full 40 minutes was not enough as the teams needed the extra five minutes to break the 87-all tie. Roberts hit an early three-pointer for a quick Knights lead. The Giants would tie the game at 92-92 with 3:36 left. Metzger hit the next two baskets to put the Knights up by four. The junior would then connect on a lay-up with 29 second remaining to put Neumann up by six points. Schlesmann went 2-for-2 at the line with eight seconds on the clock to seal the win.

Neumann held the pace in the first half, taking an early 13-8 lead. The Knights increased their lead to 13, 27-14, with 12:14 left in the half. The Giants went on an 11-0 run to get to with two, 27-25, with 8:12 left. The Knights finished the half strong, going on a 23-15 run to take a 50-40 heading into half time.

Keystone came out of halftime on fire and went on a 14-4 run to tie the game at 54-54 in the first 3:46. The Giants would continue their push and would lead the Knights 71-65 with 9:57 left in the second half. Neumann would retake the lead, 75-74, with 6:25 left. There would be four lead changes in the last six minutes of the half. The Giants hit the game-tying free throw with 30 seconds left in regulation. Both teams had chances to take the lead and win the game, but neither could capitalize and the game went into overtime.

Neumann (9-10, 6-4 CSAC) hosts Centenary College on Wednesday evening in conference action. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
