Women's Basketball Slows Down Cyclone's Spin

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's basketball team played to a thrilling 67-60 win over Centenary College on Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

The Knights were led by Jessica Schlesman, who recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. She went 14-from-18 at the free throw line. Lauren Legler also scored in double figures with 19 points, including three from beyond the arc. JoHanna Metzger pulled down 11 rebounds while blocking three shots.

Centenary took an early 10-2 lead to start the game. Neumann answered with an 8-3 run, cutting the lead to only one, 13-12, on a Sarah Roberts free throw. A Legler three-pointer at the 12:16 mark tied the game at 17.

Following Neumann taking a one point lead, 20-19, neither team was able to fine the basket for three minutes. With the assistance of six points by Holly McKaig, the Knights took a seven point lead with 6:52 on the clock. The Cyclones went on their own run and tied the game at 28 with 3:34 left in the first half. A three pointer by Legler just before halftime gave Neumann a one point advantage, 33-32, into the break. .

The second half started off with a quick Centenary basket to take back a one point lead. The next basket did not happen until the 16:04 mark with two free throws by Schlesman. The Cyclones then started to build their lead and led by eight, 47-39, with 12:27 remaining in the half. Neumann scored the next eight points to knot the game again.

The teams traded baskets back and forth and remained tied with 5:18 left at 55. Free throws by Schlesman, who scored 20 of her 23 points in the second half, put the Knights in the lead for good. Another three-pointer by Legler gave Neumann a seven point advantage with 3:22 on the clock. Centenary would get as close as three, 63-60, with a minute and a half left. Schlesman sealed the win for the Knights by scoring the game's final four points.

Neumann (10-10, 7-4 CSAC) gets back into action Saturday afternoon when it hosts Gwynedd Mercy University. Tip-off is at 2:00 PM.??
