ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team lost to Gwynedd Mercy University Saturday afternoon 85-77 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Jessica Schlesman led the way for Neumann with 25 and seven assists. JoHanna Metzger recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Emily Lyons also scored in double figures, hitting four three-pointers and finishing with 13 points.

Both teams had their share of the lead in the first half, but neither holding larger than a six point advantage. Neumann took a quick 8-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game. The teams ended up knotted at 12 6:08 into the game. Gwynedd Mercy held their six point lead with 3:33 left in the first, 32-26. The Knights would end the half on a 9-3 run and the teams entered halftime tied at 35.

The first part of the second half featured seven ties. With the teams tied at 57 with 11:24 left in regulation, Gwynedd Mercy scored the next eight points to take the biggest lead of the game thus far. The Griffins would build their lead to as many as 10. The Knights made a small run to get back to within four, 78-74, on a layup by Metzger with 4:04 remaining. That was as close as Neumann would get and Gwynedd Mercy held on for the 85-77 win.

Neumann (10-11, 7-5 CSAC) heads to Cabrini College Wednesday for more conference action beginning at 6:00 PM.
