Knights Shutout Highlanders on Senior Day

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team swept the doubleheader against Cairn University with scores of 10-0 and 9-0 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Postgame, Neumann honored the six seniors: Katie Halter, Allie White, Megan Williams, Jamie Scannella, Michelle Butler, and Kristin Beaty. The seniors were a big contribution to today's wins.

Halter led the way for Neumann with two runs, an RBI, and two hits including a double in game one. Williams and Becky Guinto both had two hits, two RBI's, and a run.

Beaty started the game and earned the win for Neumann allowing just one hit and throwing four strikeouts. The win improved her record to 6-1.

Guinto's two RBI's single came in the first inning scoring Williams and Marisa Giordano. A batter later Scannella doubled scoring Guinto. The second inning Williams scored two for Neumann with a single up the middle, making the score 5-0.

Neumann then went on to score four in the third inning and one more in the fourth making the score 10-0. Beaty's took a no hitter into the fifth inning, but was broken with a hit by the first batter in the top of the fifth.

In the second game, the Knights did not let up the hitting. White had a hit, two runs, and two RBI's for Neumann. Williams did well again having two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Halter had two hits and a run.

The Knights scored their nine runs with four in the third and five in the fourth inning. The scoring started in the third with White's RBI on a fielder's choice. Williams then singled scoring White. Danielle Grayson and Kara Grogan also had RBI's hits for a 4-0 at the end of the third.

The Knights scored five runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run inside-the-park homerun by Melissa Bond. Haley Broomell pitched a shutout and took a no-hitter into the fifth inning which was broken up in the top of the fifth for Cairn's only hit of the game, just as in game one.
