ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's soccer team fell to Immaculata University 3-2 in double overtime on Wednesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Neumann opened the scoring in the game in the seventh minute as
Jamie King shot a laser from outside the 18 into the back of the net. The Knights took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Mighty Macs tied the game at one in the 56
th minute on a breakaway. In the 60
th minute, Immaculata was awarded a penalty kick and took a 2-1 lead.
In the 80
th minute,
Lexi Casper shot the ball from outside the 18 that hit the crossbar and went in the net to knot the game at two. Regulation was not enough and the game went into overtime.
The teams played to a scoreless first overtime. With six minutes left in the second overtime, Immaculata was awarded another penalty kick. Neumann keeper
Kristen Montgomery made the save to continue the game. With three minutes left in the second OT, the Mighty Macs got the ball past the Knights defense and ended the game on a breakaway.
Neumann doubled up Immaculata in shots 26-13. Montgomery made eight saves in net.
Neumann (1-5, 1-1 CSAC) will host Cairn on Friday afternoon in CSAC action. The game is slated for begin at 2:00 PM.
