The Neumann University Men's Rugby Club went into their 2016 homecoming match against Lafayette looking to stay in the EPRU playoff hunt, as both squads entered the contest with a 3-1 record.

Santino D'Angelo opened the scoring for the Knights crashing in a try from a short run for a 5-0 lead eight minutes into the match. Lafayette added a try to knot it at five, but Neumann would not be denied as Ricky Connelly raced five meters from a line out a minute later to retake the lead 10-5. After a red card, Neumann was forced to play the remaining game one-man down. Lafayette went ahead 12-10 with a try and conversion at the 19-minute mark, but the prop combo of D'Angelo and Connelly proved difficult to manage for the lads from Lehigh Valley, each adding a try putting the club back on top at the half, 20-12.

Lafayette snatched the lead scoring two trys for a 22-20 lead at the fifteen minute mark, but again the Knights responded with two consecutive tries; Nick Fallows at the 17-minute mark and John McNichol scored at the 32-minute point; Bryon Hewitt slotted the conversion for a 32-22 cushion. A Lafayette try and conversion made it interesting with four minutes left, but Neumann would hold on and take the gritty match by a final score of 32-29.

The club will next head to Ursinus College for a matchup on Saturday, October 22.
