Women's Soccer Falls in CSAC First Round to Cyclones

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought first round Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoff contest to Centenary University 5-3 on Monday afternoon.

The Knights received goals from Taylor Garman, Brooke Harvey and Ashley Francis. Goalie Anna Attardi made seven saves in the loss.

Neumann fell behind early, conceding a goal just six minutes into the game to fall behind 1-0. After the goal the Knights would settle down and find their game. Neumann responded with a few nice chances of their own, and the team was rewarded in the 37th minute with a penalty kick. Garman stepped up to the spot and drilled the ball into the back of the net to level the score at one apiece. The game would head to halftime tied a 1-1, with the Cyclones holding a 9-8 edge in shots.

The opening of the second half saw the Knights come out of the gates flying. Harvey knocked in a pass from Kristina Yocum just six minutes into the period to take a 2-1 lead. Neumann continued buzzing early in the half and doubled its lead in the 58th minute, as Jamie King combined with Francis for the Knights third goal of the contest to make it 3-1.

Unfortunately for Neumann, the third goal would be the final highlight of the match. Centenary responded with three goals in the next 12 minutes to go back up by a score of 4-3 and take control of the match. The Knights would continue to work for a late equalizer, but the Cyclones kept them at bay and tacked on a fifth goal on a penalty kick in the 86th minute to seal the game.

Neumann is now 9-8-1 and will wait for the ECAC Tournament announcements next Monday to see if its season will continue.
