ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell to Catholic University 85-71 on Saturday afternoon.
 
Lauren Legler led the Knights with 21 points, including six three-pointers. Nafisa Saunders added 17 points. AAliya Hayes notched a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Catholic started the game on a 12-5 run for an early lead. Neumann then scored the next nine points to take a 14-12 lead on a layup by Hayes. Two jumpers by Hayes to end the quarter put the Knights up 18-14 after the first 10 minutes.
 
Legler opened the second quarter with a three-pointer. Neumann built up its lead to as many as 12 late in the quarter. With the Knights holding a 39-27 lead, the Cardinal ended the quarter on an 8-2 run for a 41-35 halftime score.
 
Mariah Maciejewski opened the second half with a layup. Catholic then started to make its move and scored the next nine points to take a 44-43 lead. A layup by Saunders broke the Cardinals run, but not for long. Throughout the rest of the quarter, Catholic built its lead to 12, 61-49, leading into the final 10 minutes,
 
The Knights were able to keep pace with the Cardinal in the fourth quarter, but the lead built up in the third quarter was enough for Catholic to come away with the 85-71 win.
 
Neumann (3-5) is now off until after Christmas when it will host Widener on December 30. Action gets underway at 1:00 PM.
