ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team dropped its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener to Marywood University 72-52 on Saturday afternoon.
AAliya Hayes led the Knights with 28 points and 16 rebounds.
Nafisa Saunders added 11 points.
The Knights built up a seven point lead, 15-8, with three and a half minutes left in the first quarter. Neumann held an 18-12 lead at the first break.
The Pacers started to chip their way back into the game and doubled up the Knights in points in the second quarter 18-9. Marywood held a 30-27 lead at the break as it hit a three-pointer with seven second to go on the clock.
Marywood came out of the locker room on fire and continued to build its lead. With 4:05 left in the third quarter, the Pacer took a double-digit advantage, 40-30, and then a 54-38 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Pacers kept the pressure on in the fourth quarter and came away with conference win.
Neumann (2-4, 0-1 CSAC) will host Lancaster Bible on Wednesday evening in non-conference action beginning at 7:00 PM.
