CLERMONT, Fla. - The Neumann University softball team once again split in spring break action in Florida. The Knights defeated Bethel 15-1 in six innings and then fell to Johnson & Wales 2-0.
In the win over Bethel,
Marisa Giordano and
Julia Cox each had three hits.
Mary Cotton knocked in four runs.
Melissa Rozumalski and Cox each had three RBI. Cox also scored three runs.
The Pilots scored their only run in the bottom of the first inning. The Knights got on the board in the third inning.
Sarah Murray scored on a single by Rozumalski, who came around to score on a single by
Kara Grogan.
Neumann doubled its runs in the fourth inning. Cox scored in a double by
Melissa Bond.
Kendall Boardman came around to score on a single by Giordano.
Rozumalski added two more RBI in the fifth inning and the Knights held a 7-1 lead after five innings.
In the sixth inning, the Knights exploded for eight runs.
Mary Cotton doubled with the bases loaded for three RBI wrap up the scoring.
Taylor Naman picked up her first collegiate win. She went 4.1 innings and allowed just one run on six hits and struck out two in the win. Michalea Pembleton went the final 1.2 innings and did not allow a hit.
In the second game of the day, Neumann could not string together hits and fell 2-0. Boardman had two hits in the game.
Lauren Wilkie went 7.0 innings and struck out five.
Neumann (3-3) will enjoy an off day on Wednesday and will get back on the field on Thursday when it will face St. John Fisher and Mount Union.
