Men's Lacrosse Puts One in the Win Column

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season, 9-7, over Bard College on Tuesday afternoon.

Sergio Plesati and Adam Fagan led the Knights with three goals and an assist each. Ricky Viscuse had a goal and an assist while Ryan Lee handed out two assists.

Antonio Gibson made 20 saves in net for his first collegiate win and picked up nine ground balls. Ryan Martin caused four Raptor turnovers and picked up seven ground balls.

The Knights got stronger as the game progressed. Plesati put Neumann on the board first with 6:42 left in the first quarter. The Raptors answered with two goals to take a 2-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.

Bard netted the first goal of the second quarter before Viscuse scored his goal. Fagan then notched his first goal of the game to tie the game at three. The Raptors were able to score two quick goals before halftime to take a 5-3 lead into the break.

Neumann scored three goals in the third quarter while keeping Bard off the scoreboard. Tylar Schlimme scored his first goal of the season with 3:23 left on the clock. Fagan found the back of the net twice in the final minute to tie and then give the Knights the lead, 6-5, heading into the final 15 minutes.

Plesati scored his second goal with 9:33 left in regulation to put Neumann up by two. Bard scored with under six minutes remaining to get back within one, 7-6. Plesati gave the Knights back their two goal lead with 2:28 on the clock. Rob Lassiter added an insurance goal with 63 ticks remaining. The Raptors were not going to give up that easily and scored with eight seconds left, but the insurance goals were able to let the Knights hang on for the 9-7 win.

The win is the first for head coach Kyle Gardner and the first for the Knights in two seasons.

Neumann (1-3) will head out on the road for the first time this season when it heads to Delaware Valley on Saturday for non-conference action. Face-off is slated for 1:00 PM.
