PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Neumann University men's tennis season came to an end with a 5-0 loss to Gwynedd Mercy University on Friday morning in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinal matchup.
The Knights were the No. 4 seed heading into the playoffs as they finished with a 4-3 conference record. The Griffins were the No. 1 seed as they went undefeated in CSAC action, 7-0.
In postseason play, the match is completed when the first team reaches five points, unlike the regular season when all nine sets finish.
Gwynedd Mercy took all three points in doubles action to start the morning. The duo of
Jake Davidson and
Trevor Hoopes took a set at first doubles, but fell 8-1.
As the teams went to singles action, the Griffins held a 4-0 lead as the Knights forfeited sixth singles.
Andrew Wilbraham put up a valiant effort, but dropped his match at fourth singles 6-0, 6-0.
Jordan Collins has won his first set at fifth singles, 6-2, before the match was called.
Gwynedd will meet the winner of the other semifinal match between No. 2 Summit and No. 3 Marywood tomorrow for the CSAC Championship.
Neumann finishes its season 4-6 overall.
