ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team defeated Marywood University on Friday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. The scores were 10-0 and 6-0.
In game one,
Danielle Grayson homered and batted in three runs.
Melissa Rozumalski had two hits, two RBI and scored a run.
Jackie Schneider and
Sarah Murray had a pair of hits.
Kara Grogan had a two-run single.
Lauren Wilkie pitched the shutout. She allowed only three hits and struck out two in 5.0 innings.
Neumann got on the board in the second with an RBI single down the right field line by Rozumalski to score Murray.
The Knights erupted for nine runs on nine hits in the third.
Julia Cox led off the inning with a single, and Grayson homered to left to start off the scoring. Singles by
Kendall Boardman and Rozumalski added two runs. Grogan singled to center to drive home Boardman and
Michaela Pembleton. RBI singles by
Becky Guinto and Schneider secured the 10-0 win.
In game two, Schneider had two hits, two RBI and scored a run. Guinto had a pair of hits and scored two runs. Cox, Grayson and Boardman each batted in a run.
Haley Broomell pitched 7.0 scoreless innings. She allowed four hits and struck out three.
The Knights got on the board in the first with two runs. Guinto singled through the left side and scored on a triple by Cox. Schneider singled to first base to bring home Cox.
Neumann added a pair of runs in the fourth. Murray singled to shortstop to score
Robyn Hayden, who entered the game as a pinch runner after Grayson walked. Boardman singled to score Schneider.
The Knights also added a pair of runs in the fifth. Guinto led off the inning with a single through the left side. Cox walked and
Jess Dicken entered as a pinch runner. Grayson singled through the right side to score Guinto. Schneider reached on a dropped fly by the centerfielder to score Dicken for the 6-0 final.
Neumann (19-11, 16-0 CSAC) will travel to Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday for a pair of games. First pitch is slated for 12:00 PM.
