ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team wrapped up the regular season with a pair of wins against Summit University during senior day celebrations on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
After the games, the Knights thanked this year's seniors:
Melissa Rozumalski,
Lauren Wilkie,
Julia Malseed,
Danielle Grayson and managers Lauren Amoriello and Taylor Balzer.
In game one,
Kendall Boardman had two hits, three RBI and scored a run.
Jackie Schneider had a pair of hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
Julia Cox had two hits, batted in a run and scored two runs. Wilkie started in the circle and pitched a complete game shutout to pick up her eighth win. She allowed six hits and struck out two.
The Knights opened the scoring in the second inning of game one. Boardman singled in Schneider.
Stephanie Brinker hit an RBI triple to score Boardman and
Marisa Giordano singled in Brinker for a 3-0 lead. The Knights added three additional runs in the third on a single by Schneider and a two-run single by Boardman.
The Knights secured the 10-0 win with a four-run fourth inning.
Becky Guinto and Cox had RBI singles, Grayson batted in a run on a ground out, but reached when the first baseman dropped the throw. Schneider batted in a run on a fielders choice.
In game two, Cox had a pair of hits, including an inside the park homerun, batted in three runs and scored two. Giordano, Wilkie and Rozumalski also had a pair of hits.
Haley Broomell started in the circle and pitched 4.0 scoreless innings to pick up her ninth win. She allowed two hits and struck out three.
Taylor Naman closed out the game in the fifth and struck out two.
In the first, Cox hit the ball to right field that rolled all the way to the fence. She rounded the bases on the play for an inside the park to put the Knights up 1-0. Bats came alive in the third as the Knights scored nine runs to take a 10-0 lead. Boardman hit a two-run triple and Cox had a two-run single while five other Knights hits RBI singles in the inning.
Neumann (24-14, 21-1 CSAC) will be the No. 1 seed in the CSAC postseason and will host the semifinals and finals beginning on Friday.
