EWING, N.J. – The Neumann University softball team's season came to an end at the NCAA Tournament, 3-2, against the College of State Island on Saturday afternoon.
Staten Island tried to break the game open in the first inning as it loaded the bases with one out.
Haley Broomell was able to get out of the jam and left the bases loaded with Dolphins. The two outs to wrap up the first inning started eight straight sent down by Broomell.
The Knights scored their two runs in the fourth inning.
Becky Guinto led off the inning with a line drive to left field and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Danielle Grayson.
Julia Cox also singled for two runners on base.
Jackie Schneider knocked in Guinto and
Jewell Ringgold, who ran for Cox, with a double to left center.
The Dolphins plated their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as the first three batters reached base. With two outs, back-to-back singles gave Staten Island the lead.
The Knights could not get the tying run across home plate in the top of the seventh and the game finished, 3-2.
Broomell went the distance in the circle. She allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out two.
Neumann wraps its season up 26-16 overall.
