ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team took an 87-43 decision over Clarks Summit University on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Nine Knights had points to help the team pull away with the win and 10 of the 11 players had at least one rebound.
Lauren Legler hit five three-pointers and finished with 23 points,
AAliya Hayes tallied a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Mariah Maciejewski added 14 points.
The Knights started off strong in the first quarter with a 20-0 run in the first five minutes of the game. The Defenders ended the Knights run with 4:37 remaining in the quarter. Neumann held a 21 point lead, 27-6, after the first 10 minutes.
Neumann started the second quarter on a 7-2 run. Each team took mini runs to wrap up the half and the Knights took a 44-25 lead into the locker rooms.
After the intermission, the Knights opened the third quarter on an 8-0 run over the first two minutes, capped by a three-pointer by Legler. The two teams went basket for basket over the next two minutes. A layup by
Diamond Talley gave the Knights a 34 point advantage, 70-36, going into the last 10 minutes of the game.
The Knights used the lead built during the first three quarter to cruise to the win. Neumann held Clarks Summit to one point in the final five minutes, finishing the game on a 12-1 run.
Neumann (11-6, 6-2 CSAC) will head to Keystone College on Wednesday evening for more conference action. Tip-off is at 6:00 PM.
