Knights Pick Up Win over PSU-Brandywine

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Penn State Brandywine, 75-56, in the first game of the Neumann Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Seven Knights had put points on the board, with four netting double-figures, to help the team pull away with the win. Nafisa Saunders had a double-double having 18 points and 12 rebounds. Kristen Denoncour added 14 points. Lauren Legler chipped in 12 with four baskets from downtown. Mariah Maciejewski also added 10 points.
 
After Penn State Brandywine scored the first four points of the game, the Knights went on an eight-point streak for an 8-4 game. Neumann continued to its run and scored nine of the next 12 points to take a 10 points advantage, 17-7. The Lions answered with the next six points. With seven seconds on the clock in the first quarter, Minika Glenn hit a free-throw for an 18-13 score after the first 10 minutes.
 
Shauntel Williams opened the second quarter with a jump shot. The teams battled it out for most of the quarter until with 2:48 left when Saunders hit a three that put the Knights up 10, 35-25. PSU-Brandywine scored the final five points of the half, making the score 35-30 at the break.
 
With 8:07 left in the third, Williams started a 10-0 run for the Knights as they built a 16 point lead, 49-33. Neumann continued the pressure and held a 54-37 lead after the third quarter.  The Knights used the lead built in the third quarter to keep the Lions at arm's length in the fourth quarter to come away with the 75-56 win.  

Neumann (1-1) will head to the Tip-off Tournament Championship game on Sunday afternoon. The Knights will face Misericordia, who defeated Bryn Athyn 77-28 in the other game on Saturday. Tip-off is at 2:00 PM in the Mirenda Center.
