BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Neumann University women's basketball team's season came to an end, falling to Brooklyn College 81-55 on Wednesday evening in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament.
 
AAliya Hayes continued to lead the Knights and finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Nafisa Saunders added 12 points. Lauren Legler added 11 points.
 
Shauntel Williams started the game with a three-pointer. Brookyn responded by scoring the next seven points for a 7-3 score. The Knights worked their way back and a three-pointer by Legler tied the game at 11 midway through the quarter. The Bulldogs went on a 9-1 run for a 20-12 score and took a 22-16 lead after the first 10 minutes.
 
Saunders connected on two free throws to start the second quarter. With 4:23 left before halftime, Brooklyn took a 30-24 score and netted the next eight points to extend its lead to 38-24. The Bulldogs continued its run to the end of the quarter and took a 42-26 lead into halftime.
 
Brooklyn started the third quarter on fire, scoring the first 12 points before Saunders put Neumann on the board for the second half. The Bulldogs built their lead to as many as 30, including as the teams headed into the final quarter, 73-43.
 
The Bulldogs used its lead to cruise through the fourth quarter and come away with the 81-55 win to advance to face Carnegie Mellon on Friday. Hayes had the Knights' final basket of the season, a fitting way for the senior to round out her career.
 
Neumann finishes the season 18-9 and qualified for both the conference and ECAC Tournaments for the second straight seasons.
