ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's tennis team opened up the 2017 season on Tuesday afternoon, falling 8-1 to visiting Alvernia University.
In a match that was actually much closer than the score-line showed,
Zac Lazzaro picked up the Knights lone win of the match, winning in second singles by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
Neumann also received excellent performances in singles from
Daniel Rival and
Jordan Collins. Rival (first singles) and Collins (fifth singles) both fought back after dropping their opening sets to force third set tie-breaks before falling in extremely close matches.
The pairing of
Andrew Wilbraham and
Shane Galante also fought valiantly, suffering a close 9-7 defeat in third doubles.
Neumann (0-1) is right back in action tomorrow with another non-conference match at Moravian College. The match is slated to begin at 4:00 PM.
