Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Picks Up First Conference Win

ASTON, Pa. – After a pair of recent losses, the Neumann University men's lacrosse team bounced back in a big way on Saturday afternoon, picking up an exciting win over Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) rival Centenary University by a score of 11-9.

Chase Fraser continued to carry the load for the Knights on the day. The senior notched a team high three goals, nine shots and seven ground balls in the win. Neumann also received two-goal games from Sergio Plesati and Chris Augustine, while goalie Brendan Risley made 10 saves in net to pick up his third win of the season.

Neumann would have the better of the play in the opening quarter and were finally rewarded just under ten minutes into the game with a goal from Steven Andreas at the 5:34 mark of the period. The Knights would build on their lead a minute later, as Fraser ripped a laser past the Centenary net-minder to make it 2-0. The Cyclones got a goal back late in the frame, but Neumann would head to the second quarter with a 2-1 lead.

The Knights looked to build onto their lead in the early portion of the second quarter. Using some excellent defense and timely scoring, Neumann tallied the first three goals of the quarter to increase its lead to 5-1 with 8:55 left in the opening half. Centenary would fight back with two consecutive goals late in the stanza, but a Fraser goal with 1:04 left to play in the half sent the Knights to the intermission with a 6-3 lead.

After halftime, the game continued to be tightly contested. The Cyclones opened the scoring at the 12:43 mark, but it was answered just two minutes later by a Xavier Glanzel goal for Neumann. The Knights resilience would be the story of the quarter. Centenary scored three times in the frame, but each and every time Neumann responded with a goal of its own to preserve the three goal lead. As the game transitioned to the fourth quarter, Neumann led by a score of 9-6.

The fourth and final period of play opened with the Knights adding some insurance to their lead. Adam Fagan scored on an extra man opportunity to give Neumann a four goal lead that it would never relinquish. The Cyclones would make the game interesting late by scoring three goals of their own, but Fraser's third goal of the game at the 7:25 mark sealed Neumann's first conference win of the season.

Neumann (3-6, 1-1 CSAC) is back in action on Tuesday, April 4th when it travels to Westminster College for a non-conference matchup. Game-time is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
